Detroit Public Television is airing a national PBS broadcast, Ride the Tiger, on April 13, 2016. Ride the Tiger is a one-hour documentary that tells the story of highly accomplished individuals - congressmen, attorneys, pastors, authors, and stay-at-home moms - all of whom have been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. The documentary is designed to subvert stereotypes by raising awareness and to empower individuals living with a bipolar diagnosis. This film weaves together brave and compelling stories with a narrative of scientists and scholars using cutting edge research techniques to discover new methods of diagnosis and treatment. Ride the Tiger explores questions and connections that are spurring four scientific disciplines of mental health research: genetics, the brain, treatment, and basic science. It explores what the highs and lows of bipolar disorder look like inside and outside of the body. It is an outstanding film that offers a holistic portrayal of the medical and personal reality of bipolar and provides audiences with an inside look into one of the nation's most discussed and least understood mental health conditions.
